Arum - Yunabán the witch series
Lately I've been in the forest much more often. I stumbled over these little weird plants. I felt like I've never seen them before my entire life and therefore I didn't know the name of them either.
The perfect plant for my "Yunabán the witch" series, isn't it?
Of course you already read the title of this post so you know the name of it: Arum.
Are you familiar with this plant?
The Arum is actually a flower. It looks a bit like a Calla. But it doesn't smell as nice as the Calla at all, it actually smells pretty bad.
Arum is also poisonous! You better don't touch it, the whole plant is toxic. Of course you won't get poisoned right away by only touching it but you won't get any benefits by doing so either, so why taking the risk? Also, it's a protected species.
Arum was once used as a medicinal plant to heal respiratory diseases. Nowadays it isn't used anymore.
This weird and interesting plant blooms from April - May and gets these orange berries in the late summer.
It was very fascinating to see how many of them were actually growing in the forest after I've noticed the first!
So the next time you're in a forest in Central Europe, keep an eye out for this special flower :)
